Trained as a biochemist, Alan Gerstein spent most of his biotech career developing strategies to better support the training and education needs of the life science research community. As Manager of a technical support group, he spoke with thousands of researchers looking for answers and problem resolution regarding a variety of reagent kits and many types of instruments. He incorporated much of this experience into Molecular Biology Problem Solver, a book published by John Wiley and Sons in 2001. He and his team also developed training programs for many dozens of life science sales representatives and their often-reluctant managers.
An early adopter of the Macintosh, Alan quickly perfected the art of angering corporate IT managers by creating Mac networks and looking for any opportunity to use Macs to help researchers and enhance science education.
And much as he enjoys travel, when his employer moved to Cardiff, Wales, Alan remained stateside to develop interactive medical education and promotional content for major pharmaceutical clients. Most recently he was the Director of Interactive Content at Ogilvy CommonHealth, a pharmaceutical advertising agency.
